Brent C. Diefenderfer

Brent's bankruptcy practice has saved dozens of homes and cars from foreclosure and repossession, resolved burdensome tax obligations, and given hundreds of clients a fresh start and debt-free future. He has authored over 60 articles on bankruptcy and debt restructuring topics in his Bankruptcy Knowledge Library — a working reference for clients, real estate professionals, and non-bankruptcy attorneys across Central PA.

Brent regularly represents both debtors and creditors in bankruptcy proceedings. That perspective is rare — and it matters. Knowing how creditors think, what trustees look for, and how judges rule lets him anticipate problems before they happen and shape strategy accordingly.

From JAG officer to bankruptcy attorney

Brent C. Diefenderfer deployed to Iraq with the 101st Airborne Division, 2005
Deployed to Iraq with the 101st Airborne — 2005.

Prior to joining CGA Law Firm, Brent served as an active-duty Army officer and Judge Advocate (JAG) attorney, advising senior military officers on complex legal issues and litigating contested jury trials as a Trial Defense Counsel. In 2005 he deployed for a year to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as part of the 101st Airborne Division — the "Screaming Eagles."

My military experience helped shapes how Brent runs cases today: meticulous preparation, no detail left unverified, and a deep respect for my clients who are trusting him with a hard moment in their life.

Se habla español

During college, Brent spent his junior year in Spain in a total language-immersion program. He continues to use that experience representing Spanish-speaking clients across Central Pennsylvania.

Outside the office

When not representing clients, Brent enjoys spending time with his children, DIY projects, woodworking, physical fitness, hiking, sporting clays, and archery.

What you can expect.

  1. 01

    Respect and compassion

Most people file because of situations beyond their control — job loss, medical problems, divorce. Whatever your situation, I'm not going to judge you for it. Everyone gets treated with respect, humility, and compassion. Always.

  2. 02

    Plain language

You'll never hear a term from me that doesn't come with a clear explanation. The Knowledge Library on this site has over 60 articles I've written breaking down every concept clients ask about — from the automatic stay to lien stripping to cramdowns.

  3. 03

    Experienced practitioner

15+ years of consumer bankruptcy practice in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Middle and Eastern Districts of Pennsylvania. Hundreds of cases — and the seasoning that only comes with reps in the courtroom.

  4. 04

    Strategy from both sides

I regularly represent both debtors and creditors. That perspective helps me anticipate strategies and develop effective arguments — either way the table turns. It also means I know exactly what the trustee is looking for.

  5. 05

    Se habla español

A junior year of total language immersion in Spain lets me work directly with Spanish-speaking clients across Central PA — no interpreter required.
